ATHENS, Pa. ( WETM ) — A Waverly man is facing multiple charges after police say he led them on a chase that at times exceeded 100 mph and had methamphetamine hidden under his car.

Cody J. Blake, 37, was arrested on May 12 following a 2.47-mile-long police chase through Athens. According to the Athens Township Police Department, officers attempted to pull Blake’s 2005 Pontiac G6 over on Route 220 at about 4:43 p.m. after noticing that the windshield was cracked. The officers identified the driver as Blake, whom they knew not to have a valid driver’s license from previous encounters.

Police say that Blake accelerated as they attempted to pull him over, and their patrol vehicle had to reach speeds of more than 100 mph to keep up with him. Blake continued north down Route 220 and then took the Pine Street exit, ran a stop sign, turned right onto West Pine Street, ran a red light, turned right on North Elmira Street, turned left onto Longway Street, and ran another stop sign at the intersection of Longway Street and Fourth Street. Smoke started coming from the car’s hood, and the car stopped suddenly.

Two officers arrested Blake and took him to the Athens Township Police Department and another stayed with Blake’s vehicle while waiting for a tow truck. The officer allegedly noticed a magnetic lockbox that was attached to the underside of Blake’s car as it was being loaded onto the tow truck.

While at the police department, Blake waived his Miranda Rights and signed a document that gave officers permission to search his vehicle. Police say they found 44.35 grams of methamphetamine inside of the lockbox.

Blake was charged with the following:

    • Manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance (felony)
    • Fleeing or attempting to elude officer (grade 3 felony)
    • Intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not registered (misdemeanor)
    • Possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor)
    • Reckless driving (summary offense)
    • Careless driving (summary offense)
    • Obstructed window (summary offense)
    • Required financial responsibility (summary offense)
    • Driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked (summary offense)

Blake is currently being held in the Bradford County Prison on $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 21 in the Bradford County Courthouse.
