ASHDOWN, Ark. ( KTAL/KMSS ) – A pastor in Ashdown, Arkansas, is walking 30 miles for charity on Saturday, April 20th.

It is part of Impact 2024 Fun Day, which gives the community a chance to come together and enjoy food from Angie’s Snow Cones and Nothing Bundt Cakes, kid’s games, bingo, and live music, all while raising money for worthy causes.

Over the 12 years pastor Jim Cross has been making the trek, Ashdown United Methodist Church has raised over $300,000.

That money goes to various charities and community organizations, such as the Ashdown Public Library , the city park, the volunteer fire department, and the Two Rivers Museum .

The money also funds scholarships for local students, allowing them to purchase 400 shoes for needy children.

“It’s very touching and humbling to get to pass the checks out, you know, to pass out shoes to kids, to give a scholarship check to kids that are struggling.” says Pastor Jim Cross, “I joke, and I say, I can’t sing and dance, but I can walk, and it just seems like something fun to do.”

Pastor Cross says it usually takes him over 10 hours to complete his walk.

The main event will be held from 2-5 p.m. at the Ashdown Middle School.

To donate, you can mail a check to Ashdown United Methodist Church at 145 E Commerce St, Ashdown, AR 71822, or donate online through PayPal .
