Cat rescued during Capitola structure fire
CAPITOLA, Calif. — Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County said they put out a structure fire in Capitola on Friday. They were dispatched at 2:30 p.m. for reports of a house fire near Wharf Road and Grace Street. The fire was quickly extinguished, which limited damage to the property, firefighters said.

Nearly $12 million structural deficit forces layoffs at CSUMB
SEASIDE, Calif. — California State Monterey Bay announced it was parting ways with 16 employees in an ongoing effort to reduce a nearly $12 million structural deficit. Eighty-six employees were approved for the Voluntary Separation Incentive Program and took an early retirement. The university says that some of these positions will be filled again.

Gilroy DMV office to temporarily close this summer for renovations
The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday that its office in Gilroy will be temporarily closed this summer for renovations. The office, located at 6984 Automall Parkway, is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, and reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to the DMV.
Marcus Northcutt steps down as Watsonville’s athletic director
Marcus Northcutt has stepped down as Watsonville High’s athletic director after seven years with the school, he told The Pajaronian on Thursday.
