2026 QB emerging as Miami priority as Hurricanes’ OC plans in-school visit: “They’ve been recruiting me really hard”

Argyle (Tx.) Liberty Christian three-star 2026 quarterback Quinn Murphy , a top-400 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, doesn’t feel close to a decision. But when he narrows down his list later this summer, he’s certain the Hurricanes will be one of his top schools.

Murphy, the No. 395 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, has emerged as one of Miami’s priority 2026 quarterback targets along with prospects like local top-15 gunslinger Dia Bell , four-star Noah Grubbs and top-300 prospect Tait Reynolds , among others. Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is also actively recruiting top-300 recruit DJ Bordeaux and has already visited Bell and Reynolds this spring, in addition to offering No. 1 2026 quarterback Faizon Brandon , but plans to visit Texas to see Murphy later this spring.

“I’d say they’re definitely in the top of my list,” Murphy said. “And I know it’s the same for me with them that I’m at the top of their list. I’ll go into more detail about that in a few months once the spring is over, but whenever I make some sort of list, they’ll definitely be in there, and that’s just because of the way they’ve been recruiting me. They’ve been recruiting me really hard. Coach Dawson, coach (Mario) Cristobal , coach (Cody) Orgeron , they’ve been doing a really good job recruiting me, and I don’t take that for granted.”

Murphy said communication with Dawson started picking up this past winter and spring after Dawson visited his school in December. Murphy also attended the Hurricanes’ spring game on a two-day unofficial visit last month, when he spent extended time with Miami’s coaching staff and 2025 four-star quarterback commit Luke Nickel, who Murphy said “wouldn’t be a bad person at all to be behind my freshman year” if he committed to the Hurricanes.

Minnesota, Baylor, Arkansas, TCU, USF, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M and Oklahoma have shown interest in the 6-foot-1, 188-pound prospect, and he visited TCU, Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Miami this spring.

“Those (other four schools I visited) are right in the mix because they’re high on me and they’re close to town besides Miami, so that just kind of shows how much I like and appreciate Miami, because they’re the one school I went to that isn’t in driving distance,” Murphy said. “(Being close to) home isn’t really a factor for me. It’s just more about building a relationship with these coaches who are recruiting me.”

    CaneSport’s Take

With Bell’s recruitment still up in the air and a possible decision coming later this summer and Grubbs still narrowing down his list, Murphy could make a lot of sense for Miami. He’s roughly the same size as Nickel (although about 15 pounds lighter) and has a comparable skillset Dawson has shown to favor in quarterbacks, so Murphy could be a name to monitor.

He isn’t close to making a decision but has interest in visiting Miami this summer, which could bode well for the Hurricanes’ chances on top of the respect he holds for Dawson.
