Culver Community School Board Discusses Cell Phone, Attendance Policy
The Culver Community School Board members took time during their meeting Monday, July 15 to discuss cell phone and attendance policy changes. Superintendent Karen Shuman explained that the cell phone policy will be that students will not possess cell phones during instructional time. Students in grades 9-12 may use cell phones in between classes and during lunch. Students may use cell phones after school. Shuman said bus drivers may allow students to use cell phones on the bus at the driver’s discretion.
Culver Community School Superintendent Updates Board on Summer Projects, Discusses GO Bond
Culver Community School Superintendent Karen Shuman updated the school board on many projects that have taken place since the students exited the buildings in May. She noted during the meeting Monday, July 15 that contractors are putting fixtures in the Elementary School restrooms and installing epoxy in those facilities. Ceiling grids are being installed and partitions should be delivered soon. Work at the Elementary School should be done at the end of the month.

AKRON — “I’ve always been comfortable interacting with kids,” stated Scott Sterk, Silver Lake. “I love helping them learn and grow. I taught sixth grade students at Lincoln Elementary in Warsaw for 17 years. This is my third year as principal at Akron Elementary School. As principal, I not only get to interact with students, but lead the staff, converse with parents, and reach out to the community. A principal wears many different hats.”
