Three teenagers were rescued from inside an abandoned missile silo in Colorado early Sunday, May 5, and one of them was seriously injured, authorities said.

Deputies arrived to find five juveniles — two boys and three girls — above ground, who informed them that three other teens were stuck in the silo, and one of them was injured.

Rescue teams from four area fire departments responded to assist in extricating the teens from inside the silo. At around 6 a.m., an uninjured juvenile boy and the 18-year-old man were pulled from the silo. At around 6:30 a.m., rescuers were able to reach the injured victim.

The injured male was rescued from the silo at around 8:30 a.m., and airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The sheriff's office said the group of teens crawled through a gate at the entrance of the silo to gain access to the tunnels.

The 18-year-old man who was inside the silo received a summons for 3rd degree criminal trespass, and the injured victim is also facing a possible trespass charge, the sheriff's office said.

The juveniles were released to their parents, pending possible charges for trespassing. All of the juveniles are students at high schools in the Cherry Creek Public Schools district.
