18-year-old man killed in accidental shooting in Aransas Pass

ARANSAS PASS, Texas - First responders in Aransas Pass responded to a shooting at around 9 p.m. Friday, April 19, at a home in the 500 block of W. Yoakum. Authorities arrived to find Phillip Esslinger, 18, shot in the chest in what appears to be an accidental shooting.

Esslinger was shot with a shotgun by someone in the home who was reportedly working on the gun, according to police.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures on Esslinger as they transported him to a local hospital, where he later died.

Authorities have made no arrest in the investigation as they believe the shooting to be accidental.

The case remains active and ongoing.
