Phoenix's potentially $900M rapid bus expansion moves forward
Phoenix is moving forward on massive public transit expansion on the city's west side — adding Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to a 13.6-mile stretch of 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street. Why it matters: The project, which the city says could cost more than $900 million, is meant to ease congestion and commutes in a populous but historically underserved area . The BRT project will involve adding dedicated middle lanes for city buses, which will make 17 stops between the Thelda Williams Transit Center, near the former Metrocenter mall, and downtown's Greg Stanton Central Station. Reader ponders north Peoria roadway projects
OPINION — The El Mirage Road extension north from Loop 303 to Jomax Road has been a top priority to ease traffic congestion in north Peoria. Certainly, the Happy Valley Parkway and Vistancia Boulevard intersection is in need of change to accommodate rush-hour traffic. To do this with minimal inconvenience and added traffic elsewhere it seems to me the original plan to extend El Mirage Road made a great deal of sense.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2024, 2,028 people died in car crashes where the driver’s BAC level was 0.01 to 0.07 g/dL. In the same year, it was noted that 29 percent of drivers aged from 15 to 20 years old, who died in car accidents, had a BAC level of 0.01 g/dL or more.
