Missing, endangered alert canceled for Johnston County man
SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons has canceled an alert for a Johnston County man. The alert was canceled on Tuesday at 8:58 a.m. Monday right before 6 p.m., they issued a missing endangered alert for 70-year-old Joseph William Kopinke, of Smithfield. Authorities said Kopinke is endangered because he was believed to be suffering from a cognitive impairment.
Police: Incident near North Garner Middle puts school on lockdown
North Garner Middle School went into a lockdown on Monday after authorities said they received reports of someone with a gun near the school. According to the Garner Police Department, officers received a report of a person with a gun on the 100 block of Broughton Street. North Garner Middle School went into a code yellow lockdown due to its proximity to the scene. Police said "evidence of a crime" was found at the location.
