5 arrested, officer injured after driver flees traffic stop, crashes near U of M
MINNEAPOLIS — Five people were arrested and an officer was injured after a driver in a stolen vehicle fled a traffic stop and crashed near the University of Minnesota early Sunday, police said.An officer tried to stop the vehicle just after midnight, the University of Minnesota Police Department said. The driver fled and crashed near 15th Avenue Southeast and Fourth Street Southeast. After the crash, five people tried to run from the scene, police said. They were all taken into custody.An officer was injured during the arrests, police said. He was taken to Hennepin Healthcare and treated for minor injuries.

MINNEAPOLIS — A man who allegedly fled the country after fatally shooting a man in October of 2013 now faces charges.The shooting happened shortly before midnight on Oct. 30, 2013, at a gas station at the intersection of Washington Avenue South and 12th Avenue South. The 26-year-old victim was found in the driver's seat of a car with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Bystanders rescue drowning man from Bde Maka Ska
MINNEAPOLIS — Bystanders in Minneapolis helped save a man's life after pulling him from Bde Maka Ska late Sunday afternoon.The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol says it responded to a potential drowning on the lake shortly before 5:30 p.m.A 23-year-old man had been swimming when he went underwater, police say.Bystanders were able to get the man out of the water and began CPR until paramedics arrived and took over.Paramedics transported the man to the Hennepin County Medical Center for further evaluation.Members of the Minneapolis Police Department, Minneapolis Park Police and local fire departments also responded to the incident.
