Amherst, NY (WBEN) Roughly 300 protesters took to the UB North campus Friday to support Palestine. They also were upset with how police dispersed the group earlier this week.

One of the organizers urged protesters not to engage with counterprotesters, police or the media. Organizers say Wednesday's protest was peaceful, with the heavy police presence an act of intimidation.

UB issued this statement prior to the start of the protest:
The University at Buffalo is aware of the protest planned today by the UB chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine and outside groups on UB’s North Campus.

UB officials have proactively reached out to UB student protest leaders to reiterate that the university recognizes and respects students’ right to protest. However, officials made clear that the university’s rules and policies must be adhered to at all times regarding on-campus demonstrations, and the prohibition against occupation of buildings, overnight assemblies and encampments. Protests must not disrupt university operations or activities including classes, events, meetings and lectures.

The university has received assurances from student protest leaders that their protest is intended to be peaceful and follow UB and SUNY rules and policies. If any student is believed to have violated these rules and policies, they will be subject to an on-campus judiciary process to address alleged violations of UB’s Student Code of Conduct.

As with previous protests and large events, police officers will be present to ensure safety, as well as maintain public order and university operations.
