TxDOT holds public hearing for proposed improvements of Segment D on State Loop 335

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo District is set to conduct a virtual public hearing on Thursday with an in-person option to gather community input regarding proposed recommended alternative design elements for Segment D of State Loop 335 in the city of Amarillo and Potter County.

Officials with TxDOT noted the public hearing to take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and then from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 9 at Diversity Church located at 5631 Pavillard Dr. The online portion will start at 2 p.m. on the TxDOT website by searching the keyword “SL 335 Segment D.”

According to officials with TxDOT, the proposed project would improve an existing four-lane roadway between Echo Street and U.S. Highway 60 and a six-lane roadway between U.S. 60 and SE 3rd Avenue with ramps, one-way frontage roads, and grade separation over intersecting cross streets.

Officials with TxDOT noted that railroad crossings would be bridged with the exception of matching the current configuration near SE 3rd Avenue in which the roadway is depressed beneath the railroad bridges.

Officials also noted the proposed project would provide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations via an 11-foot shared-use path adjacent to each frontage road.
