    MOTHER'S DAY CONCERT − A free concert will help Alliance-area residents celebrate Mother’s Day. The event at Firehouse Theater, 450 E. Market St., begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The show will feature R&B music from Bel-Air, which includes performers Walter Johnson, Dazzle Hawkins, Cornelius Parson and Wymen Griffin. The event also will include a 50/50 drawing.     POLICE, FIRE EXAMS – Alliance Civil Service Commission has announced a promotional exam for lieutenant has been scheduled for 9 a.m. July 8 at Alliance Area Senior Center, 602 W. Vine St. Firefighters seeking advancement must have a minimum of five years of completed service with the employer before being eligible to take the lieutenant’s exam. Signup sheet posted until 5 p.m. June 1 at Alliance Fire Department’s Central Fire Station, 63 Broadway. References are posted at the Central Fire Station.

    CIVIL SERVICE – City of Alliance Civil Service Commission will meet at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in the City Administration Building, 504 E. Main St., in the second-floor conference room. Purpose of the meeting is to certify Alliance Fire Department and Alliance Police Department lists, and grading of the fire prevention officer examination.

    MARLINGTON MEETING – Marlington Local Schools Board of Education plans a work session at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Marlington High School Digital Learning Zone, 10450 Moulin Ave. in Lexington Township. Purpose of the meeting is to discuss the five-year forecast, and a proposed large-scale solar project with Solar Free Stark.Pending absence of technological issues, the meeting will be live-streamed on Marlington Local Schools’ Technology Department’s YouTube page.

    SALEM HISTORICAL – Salem Historical Society’s museum has adopted its summer hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month through October. Use the Pearce House entrance at 208 S. Broadway, across from City Hall. Last tour begins at 3:30 p.m. Tours are available by appointment on other days by calling 330-337-8514 three days in advance for an appointment. Adult admission is $6; or $3 for children ages 5 and 18. Children younger than 5 enter for free.

    PURSE AUCTION – Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Division plans a Purse with a Purpose raffle and silent auction event at 6 p.m. June 5 at Alliance Elks Lodge 467, 606 Glamorgan St. Doors open at 5:15 p.m., and the auction will start at 6 p.m. Event will include designer handbags, 50/50 raffle, $10 swag bags and gift baskets.     FINAL FRIDAY EVENTS – Main Street Alliance has announced a musical theme for the May 31 Final Friday event along East Main Street in downtown Alliance. Events will include a Bluecoats Special Ensemble at 4:30 p.m.; and a petting zoo sponsored by Carnation City Players from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freedom Square. Also part of the events will be the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce’s Rockin’ at the Caboose show featuring Jimmy and the Soul Blazers from 6 to 8 p.m. Final Fridays occur the last Friday of every month, and run 4 to 8 p.m. each month.

    KNOX TRUSTEES − Knox Township trustees plan a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 2895 Knox School Road. Trustees will convene at 6:45 p.m. to review bills.

    SRMC FUNDRAISER – Nothing Bundt Cakes will be at Salem Regional Medical Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridayin the hospital’s main lobby on the ground floor selling bundtlets. The small bundt cakes will be $6 apiece while supplies last, and 20% of the proceeds will go to the SRMC Foundation to support patient care.  A variety of flavors will be offered. Cash, credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay will be accepted. Order forms are available in the Look Nook Gift Shop through Wednesday. For more information, call 330-337-2883.

    CHURCH BREAKFAST – Damascus Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church plan their monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. May 18 at the Damascus church, 300 Valley Road. Breakfast features all-you-can-eat, made to order, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee. Cost is donation only. Breakfast proceeds will benefit the upcoming  June 23-29 summer mission trip to work with Jackson Area Ministries in Jackson, Ohio.
