Five dogs died after being brought out of a burning home in Akron on Wednesday, according the Akron Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 11:21 a.m. They found the two-story home on Hancock Avenue with heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor windows and front door, Lt. Joel Price said in a release.

Firefighters were able to get into the home quickly to extinguish the fire and search for anyone who might trapped inside. The residents weren't home at the time of the fire, but five dogs were found, Price said.

The dogs were rushed out of the home and tended to by firefighters and paramedics, but they were unable to be revived, Price said.
