Suspect test driving car captured after eluding police during traffic stop in Adams

ADAMS, Mass. (WWLP) – A suspect who eluded police in Adams during a traffic stop Tuesday was captured early the next morning.

According to the Adams Police Department, at around 11:41 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Howland Avenue. When officers asked the driver to get out of the vehicle, when they were identified and had a suspended license, they drove away.

The suspect was able to elude police during a pursuit through several towns toward Florida, Mass. Officers found the vehicle abandoned in a remote location in Savoy State Forest. It was discovered that the suspect was test-driving the vehicle from a local auto dealership.

The Massachusetts State Police Airwing, K9 Unit, and Drone Unit, along with local officers searched the wooded area however, the suspect was not located.

On Wednesday at around 3:14 a.m., officers received information that the wanted suspect was in the area of Glen Street. Upon arrival, the suspect ran away on foot while officers set up a perimeter and brought in K-9 Adam and his handler Sgt. Crane to assist. K-9 Adam found the suspect hiding in a backyard and began to run away but was captured as he ran into the officers’ perimeter.

The suspect is charged with the following:

  • Speeding rate of speed exceeding posted limit
  • Stop for police, fail
  • Marked lanes violation
  • Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • Speeding in construction zone
  • License suspended, op mv with, subsq. off
  • Destruction of property +$1,200 malicious
  • Resisting arrest

Additional charges are pending from both Adam and North Adams Police Departments.
