Mayor Eric Adams continues paying to house migrants in New York City. The latest total cost comes to approximately $4.3 billion which is only through July 2024.

The little money FEMA is providing is only a tiny portion of this. FEMA is only providing $104.6 million which was announced last Wednesday, June 6. Mayor Adams is still looking for funding and community agencies to help provide support.

Then New York City made a deal with Holiday Inn for the next 15 months. This bill will cost the city about $10.5 million.

Providing support for migrants is a humanitarian thing to do, but it comes at a cost. It’s either coming from New York taxpayers or funding from other sources.

Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York) and U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) said in a joint statement about the FEMA money:

“Today’s funds represent a strong step in the right direction — which better recognizes and rewards New York City’s unique challenge. There is more work ahead between both Houses of Congress that requires cooperation from and partnership with the GOP to produce the resources and policies our localities and state need to deal with this national issue.”

When Texas Governor Greg Abbott bussed migrants to New York City last year, Mayor Adams had no idea what the cost would amount to.

The Biden administration is providing funds to border cities and has ignored sanctuary cities such as New York City, Denver, Philadelphia, and others. So mayors in these cities are scrambling to find funds to support migrants.

Do you think things will get better or worse for Mayor Adams supporting migrants?
