Brainerd High School’s 49th annual All-Sports Banquet was held Monday night. While every senior student-athlete and team MVP was honored for their contributions, the evening wrapped up with the Warrior Athletes of the Year. Three-sport athlete Eli Hoelz was named Male Athlete of the Year, while two-sport athlete Molly Pohlkamp was recognized as Female Athlete of the Year.

Crosslake Fire Hall Holds First Ever Women’s Expo
Women from all over Central Minnesota stopped by the Crosslake fire hall this past weekend for the area’s first ever Women’s Fire Service Expo. Organized through members of the Cuyana Range Fire Chief’s Association, this event provided women considering joining the fire service an opportunity to see firsthand what it’s like to be a first responder in a local fire department.

Minnesota man to be sentenced after kidnapping son, triggering AMBER Alert, hours-long standoff
BRAINERD, Minn. — A Minnesota man who kidnapped his 2-year-old son last year, triggering an AMBER Alert and a standoff, will be sentenced on Thursday. Scott Henrikson, 42, pleaded guilty in March to a felony count of depriving the custodial rights of a parent, a gross misdemeanor count of violating an order of protection and a misdemeanor count of obstructing the legal process.According to the criminal complaint filed in Crow Wing County, Henrikson was a passenger in a vehicle with woman, who was driving, and their toddler in Baxter on July 29, 2023.The woman, who has sole parental custody of the boy,...

The Wolves’ five-game winning streak came to an abrupt halt Thursday night as Sebeka came to Walker and left with a 17-0 win. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, which during its five game winning streak had two combined no-hitters, were nearly no-hit themselves. Caleb Crow had WHA’s only hit. Brainerd School District Could Have New Superintendent by Mid-May
If all goes as planned, the Brainerd School District could have a new superintendent by May 13. On Tuesday, April 30, the School Board will meet to select finalists, and the first round of interviews is set for May 2 and 3. The board plans to select a finalist and begin the negotiation process with that candidate on May 8.

April 15-20 Wolf of the Week: Gavin Swanson
The first Wolf of the Week spring honoree is Gavin Swanson, varsity baseball. Gavin batted 8-12 (0.667) with eight runs scored and five RBI. He also pitched five innings giving up zero runs, striking out nine batters, and only allowing one hit. Gavin is also a strong student in the classroom with honor roll recognition each quarter this year. Congratulations Gavin, and keep up the great work on and off the diamond.
