The Wolves’ five-game winning streak came to an abrupt halt Thursday night as Sebeka came to Walker and left with a 17-0 win.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, which during its five game winning streak had two combined no-hitters, were nearly no-hit themselves. Caleb Crow had WHA’s only hit. The double came in the second inning and should have been a routine fly-ball out, but a strong wind carried it nearly to the fence, and the center fielder couldn’t catch up fast enough.

Parker Kiser went all five innings to get the win. He ended up with 10 strike outs and walked three.

On the other side, Cole Rutten got the start but did not make it out of the third inning as his pitch count reached 88. He allowed five runs on five hits and six walks, and struck out six.

Gavin Swanson relieved with two outs and struck out the first batter he faced. Of the 12 runs he allowed in the fourth, seven were unearned. Swanson gave up eight hits and one walk, with seven strike outs. His last hit was a grand slam by Cage Haverinen.

In addition to the second inning, WHA had runners in scoring position in the third and fifth. Skyler Westphal reached second after he was walked and Swanson was hit by a pitch in the third. A failed pick-off play at second moved runners up a base, but a second pick-off was successful, and WHA’s next batter struck out.

Westphal walked again in the fifth with two outs, Swanson followed with a walk and Wyatt Hegg was hit to load the bases. The next batter struck out looking to end the game.

This week the 6-2 Wolves travels to Blackduck, and host both Mahnomen-Wauben and Nevis, while next week they host Bagley and Laporte, and go to Red Lake.
