Foster Township man pleads guilty to killing girlfriend, immediate sentence
WILKES-BARRE — A Foster Township man admitted Monday he fatally shot his girlfriend, Jessica Romano, during an argument inside their shared residence in January 2023. Scott Andrew Oliver, 31, apologized for killing Romano, 35, during what Luzerne County Assistant District Attorney James L. McMonagle called a “senseless act of violence” involving a firearm.

There is now a 5-vote difference between the Republican candidates for the 117th district as Luzerne County began to look at disputed ballots today. Over 200 new votes were uploaded today and 11 were from the 117th district, decreasing the gap between the candidates by 3 votes. On Friday, the Luzerne County Election board focused on mail-in ballots being certified and rejected with 217 ballots accepted county-wide. Challenger Jamie Walsh added 4 more votes while incumbent representative Mike Cabell added 7 votes.

Police: Dispute about missing drill bits led to stabbing
NANTICOKE — Detectives with the City of Nanticoke Police Department charged a man with stabbing another man during a confrontation about missing drill bits and a knife. Nathaniel Robert Moore, 38, of South Washington Street, Nanticoke, was arraigned Monday by District Judge Michael G. Dotzel of Wilkes-Barre Township on two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of simple assault and reckless endangerment. Moore was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail.

WEST HAZLETON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — A man has been charged with being disorderly at a youth basketball game and assaulting and injuring a school resource officer. According to the the Hazleton Area School District Police Department, on April 19, a biddy basketball game was being held at the West Hazleton Elementary/Middle School. During the game, a parent, identified as Heath Allen Houseknecht, 38, began trash talking the coaches.
