GBI to investigate inmate death at Bulloch County Jail
At approximately 6:32am on Thursday, May 2, 2024, members of the Bulloch County Jail staff requested EMS for an inmate who was not responsive. At this time, the inmate has been confirmed to be deceased. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been contacted and will be the lead investigative agency. The inmate’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. This is a developing story. Grice Connect will update as more information becomes available.
Bulloch BOE begins FY25 Budget discussions at meeting
The Bulloch County Board of Education met Thursday, April 25, 2024. Mill Creek Elementary School students Sadie Turner and Jonas Lee led the pledge of allegiance, after which the board agenda was adopted. The Youth Career Commission, Inc. (YCCI) is accepting applications for its Youth Career Camp 2024 summer program, open to ages 13-24. The summer session will be conducted June 3-16, 2024. GALLERY | The Button & Citizens of GA Power team up to pack 'Summer Survival' bags
On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, The Button, a nonprofit organization that provides personal hygiene products for local middle and high school students, teamed up with Georgia Power Citizens, The Statesboro Citizens Chapter, and local volunteers to pack over 1,200 summer survival bags for the students. Donations filled the tables, and volunteers were busy at work stuffing bag after bag in an organized and streamlined immense assembly line. The cinch bags, which were filled from seam to seam, were then loaded into grocery carts and moved down the hall where they were put in gigantic bins to await pickup. "We've got four lines going," Liz Corbett, founder of The Button, said. "It's a community effort; it's not one [person]."
