Some Houston-area residents are told to evacuate as waters rise from heavy rains
Torrential rain caused flooding Thursday in the Houston area, with officials ordering some residents along a river to leave and telling others they may wind up stranded. “This is a life-threatening situation,” the county’s top elected official, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, said. Of particular concern is an area along the San Jacinto River, which was expected to keep rising as more rain falls and officials release extra water from an already full reservoir. Officials ordered people in an area along the river in northern Harris County, where Houston is located, to evacuate. “We want you out of this area,” Hidalgo said at a news conference Thursday afternoon. She did not say exactly how many people were ordered to evacuate.

Huntsville State Park closes through Saturday due to flooding
Huntsville State Park announced it will be closed to the public at least through Saturday after heavy rainfall and flooding have impacted northern Harris County and Montgomery County. After initially announcing a closure for Thursday, the park sent an alert out to visitors confirming the closure would proceed through Saturday.

Flooding leads to lake closures, evacuations
Because of the weather yesterday, dams in our area are being pushed to the brink by all of the rain that we saw. That's led to some people being told they're under mandatory evacuation if they're living along the Trinity River in Polk County. It's a similar situation along Lake Houston and Lake Conroe with high water levels there.
