Kids in need given backpacks filled with gifts
PEKIN (25News Now) - Volunteers filled backpacks with essential items for children who are in the foster care system and have experienced youth or neglect. The Kiwanis Club of Pekin and the Court Appointed Special Advocates of the Tenth Judicial Circuit (CASA) stuffed 100 backpacks with several items for the kids. Amazon donated the backpacks.
Tazewell County Health Department to open office in Pekin later this year
PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — The Tazewell County Health Department said their new location on Broadway Street in Pekin should be open and ready for business later this year. The health department said the new office, at 1800 Broadway St., will open in late 2024 and allow it to consolidate its clinic and Women, Infants, and Children Services in the new building. The department will keep its current facility in Tremont, where similar services will be offered.

Pekin Outreach Initiative targets June transition into new location
A Pekin nonprofit organization that assists unhoused individuals is preparing to move its downtown day shelter into a new location. Darla Koonce of the Pekin Outreach Initiative says they are in the process of remodeling space at the Salvation Army facility on Derby Street to fit their needs as an outreach center.
