Pickford earns a pair of shutout wins over Newberry
NEWBERRY - The Pickford Panthers scored a pair of convincing wins on the diamond on Thursday afternoon, shutting out Newberry 21-0 and 10-0 in a non-conference doubleheader. Report: Great Lakes beaches, including Presque Isle, suffering from plastic pollution
When you walk along the beaches of Lake Erie, you're going to see litter and a new report found that a lot of that trash is going to be plastic. On average, 86% of the litter collected in a given Adopt-a-Beach season is composed either partially or fully of plastic, according to a report released by the Alliance for the Great Lakes. The report is based on 20 years of data collected from more than 14,000 Adopt-a-Beach cleanups on all five Great Lakes, including Lake Erie at Presque Isle State Park.

Pickford, Rudyard boys basketball donate thousands to MyMichigan’s Road to Recovery program
SAULT STE. MARIE — Rivals on the court came together to raise a solid chunk of money for MyMichigan Medical Center Sault’s Road to Recovery program. In early February, the Rudyard Bulldogs boys basketball team battled the Pickford Panthers in their inaugural “Hooping for a Cure” game. This Thursday, proceeds from that game were presented to MyMichigan by Matt Johnson and Braylon Rounds from Pickford and Jim Suggitt and Cam Peterson from Rudyard. “It’s so important that people learn from a young age about giving and being part of a community, and know that friends, family and their community needs their help,” said Jazell Raycraft, Road to Recovery. “That they are willing to do it is a huge thing and I think that is a great lesson to learn as kids grow.”

On Thursday, April 4, 2024 the Chippewa Luce Mackinac Conservation District held their 75th Annual Meeting at the Les Cheneaux Distillers in Cedarville, where they announced the recipients of their annual Land Steward of the Year and other awards. Following the awards there was a keynote address by Connor Crank, Project Administrator for the institute of Water Research at Michigan State University (MSU). The meeting also featured a buffet style baked chicken dinner and Director Election.
