28-year-old felon facing attempted murder after Coos County shooting
MYRTLE POINT, Ore. – A 28-year-old convicted felon is facing more charges after reportedly firing a gun into an occupied vehicle on Old Highway 42. According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to the call just before 2 a.m. on Thursday morning. When the sergeant arrived he found out that 28-year-old Blaine Monson had allegedly fired multiple rounds from a handgun at another person who was driving away from Monson on the highway.
CBPD seeking public assistance locating stolen side-by-side
The Coos Bay Police Department is asking for public assistance to locate a side-by-side that was stolen from a car dealership in Coos Bay. On April 29, 2024, the CBPD received a report from Coos Bay Toyota, 2001 N Bayshore Drive, that a gray 2023 Polaris RZR side-by-side had been stolen from their lot earlier that morning. The theft, which had been caught on video, showed a pickup towing the side-by-side away from the lot just before 07:00 a.m. The pickup continued southbound on Highway 101, passing through downtown Coos Bay. Anyone with information regarding the theft of the side-by-side is asked to call the CBPD at 541-269-8911 or Coos Stop Crime at 541-266-6666. Tips can be made anonymously.
Coos County Jail opening to 98 beds
Since Sheriff Fabrizio’s election, he and his command staff have tirelessly worked to rehire Corrections and Patrol Deputies who were lost to attrition, retirements, and better-paying departments. This collective effort is a testament to their dedication and the value they place on public safety. Since the beginning of 2023, the Sheriff’s Office has rehired 27 percent of overall staff, and these deputies have been fully trained, allowing the Coos County Jail to double its capacity from 49 beds to 98 beds on April 27th at 8 a.m. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is excited about adding this additional jail space, which will assist the Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement agencies in combating crime within Coos County and beyond.

Brian A. Springer (40) sentenced to 100 months in prison
On April 19th 2024 Brian A. Springer (40) appeared in circuit court in Coquille to accept a plea deal for an incident which occurred in Coos Bay on October 27th 2023. The plea agreement was negotiated by Deputy District Attorney John Blanc on behalf of the victims in the case and the state of Oregon. The Bandon Fisheries Warehouse has been hosting a Meet-n-Greet every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. featuring a different speaker from the local community each week.
