Bandon man arrested on several charges after a report of a domestic assault
On April 20th, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center took a report of an assault that had occurred on Astor Lane just south of Bandon, Oregon. Deputies S. Starr and H. Francis responded and began investigating the incident. As a result of the investigation, Deputy S. Starr applied for and was granted a search warrant for the suspect, Shawn M. Brown’s (56) residence. The warrant was executed, items of evidence were seized, and Shawn M. Brown (56), who was inside, was arrested. Mr. Brown was charged with Assault IV Domestic, Menacing, Strangulation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest. Mr. Brown was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.
Card making workshop for teens
Teens are invited to the North Bend Public Library to learn how to make DIY cards. This workshop is perfect opportunity for teens to create cards for Teacher Appreciation month, but they are not required to do so. Teens can create thank you cards for teachers or cards for any occasion. Card-making materials, snacks, and drinks will be provided. This program is on Wednesday, May 8 at 4 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the North Bend Public Library. The program is for teens ages 13-18, and no registration is required. Coos Bay Public Library Foundation’s hosts Adult Spelling Bee
Catch the spelling bee buzz at Black Market Gourmet, 495 Central Avenue, Coos Bay, on Saturday, May 4th starting at 7 p.m. Teams of undaunted locals will test their spelling abilities at Coos Bay Public Library Foundation’s eleventh annual Adult Spelling Bee fundraiser. Tickets are on sale now at the Coos Bay Public Library. The $25 entry ticket includes a scrumptious dessert buffet, coffee, and no-host bar along with plenty of merriment, and probably words you have never had to spell in your life. Friends, families, and lexophiles are encouraged to join the fun by cheering on their favorite team, joining the 50/50 raffle, or purchasing raffle tickets for various bee-themed gift baskets. Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dunes Division offers Youth Rider Safety Education
It’s that time of the year, riding season is here! All Class I, Class III, and Class IV OHV’s (for youth) are required to have a Rider Safety Education Card when operating on public lands. Go to https://www.rideatvoregon.org/ and follow the steps to receive your FREE rider education card. Youth riders under the age of 16, are required to complete the online portion and a hands-on portion to receive their Rider Safety Education Card. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office conducts the hands-on portion for youth rider education. Zonta Club announces 2024 scholarship for Coos Bay Area
The Coos Bay Area Zonta Service Foundation is pleased to announce $15,000 in available scholarship funding for 2024. Available scholarships include two Zonta Club $3000 Scholarships, one Science Technology Engineering and Math STEM $3,000 Scholarship, and two Student Club $1,500 scholarships. Man arrested after attempting to drive into a fence and over an occupied tent
On April 19th, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a man attempting to run over a fence and tent occupied by two individuals with his pick-up truck. Deputy S. Starr responded and contacted the victims, who were shaken up but otherwise uninjured. Deputy Starr located the suspect, Jacob E. Lawson (49), near Bastendorff Beach Road and interviewed him about his involvement. After an investigation, Jacob E. Lawson (49) was arrested on two counts of Menacing and two counts of Reckless Endangerment. He was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.
