One person injured in shooting in town of Pittsfield, Brown County Sheriff's Office says
PITTSFIELD - A 16-year-old was injured in a shooting Wednesday night in the town of Pittsfield. The Brown County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting around 9:40 p.m. in Pittsfield. Officers used armored vehicles to contact people at the residence, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies said one person was shot. The sheriff's office didn't say where the shooting occurred.
IAWC again addresses Hardin water quality
A number of concerns continue to be shared on social media regarding the water quality in Hardin. The town’s water system was purchased more than a year ago by Illinois American Water Company. IAWC spokesman Terry Mackin tells The Big Z they are aware of the concerns and are following their plan to fix things.
High school track records broken
Recently, track athletes from multiple Macoupin County high schools set historic marks at their respective track and field meets. Hannah Gibson of Carlinville unleashed the furthest discus throw in the history of the Pana Invite at 11.56m Apr. 13. The North Mac girls’ relay team of Kaelyn Swift, Addison Earley, Emma Crawford and Alexis Bowman set a new school record of the fastest 4×200 race with a time of 1:48.34 at the Bert Trump Relays Apr. 24. On Apr. 25, sophomore phenom Chaz Oberkfell ran the fastest 1600-meter race in Gillespie High School history. 1600 meters is the equivalent of a mile, which Oberkfell finished in 4:28.97. Carlinville Band Program presents Spring Concert
The Carlinville Band Program held its Spring Concert on Sunday April 28. The Concert featured the Beginner Band, Middle School Band, High School Choir and High School Band. The Beginner Band played three selections from the class band book being The Barcarolle, Theme by Beethoven and Old McDonald. Each song showed off various skills the musicians learned throughout the year. A dream come true: Veteran opens new Grafton art gallery to showcase veteran artwork
GRAFTON, Ill. — Gene Smith served in the Marines during Vietnam. He was born in Lee Summit and found his way to retirement in Grafton. The 81-year-old always had a dream to open a gallery and give local artists a place to sell their work and honor those who've served our country.
Minor flooding expected along area rivers
The National Weather Service says minor flooding along area rivers is to be expected in the coming days and has issued a flood warning through at least 9am Saturday. The warning is the result of recent heavy rains upstream and additional precipitation forecast over the next day or so to our north.
Patrick Dunn heads to Nationals with FCCLA
FCCLA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is not a group often talked about when discussing the clubs and extracurriculars available to students in High School. FCCLA is a student led organization dedicated to helping the community and high school students prepare to be activate citizens and leaders in their communities. The Carlinville FCCLA group went to the State Conference and Competition on April 14 and 15 to compete in a variety of categories. From Carlinville, Patrick Dunn competed in Job Interview level 3, Allie Heusing competed in Job Interview level 2, Julia Amos competed in Chapter in Review Display, Hallee Kaburick competed in Sports Nutrition, Liz Hammann competed in Educational Toy, and Brenden Daugherty competed in Public Speaking – FCCLA Creed.
Grafton installs welcome signs
The city of Grafton installed new welcome signs on the three main entrances to town: the east and west entrances on Route 100 and the southbound entrance on Route 3. Each sign features “Welcome to Historic Grafton, est. 1836," with colored graphics depicting a steamboat and the Grafton lighthouse on the front.
HS baseball: Convery makes play of the year, Carlinville wins at Grizzlies Park
Life is all about second chances and the Carlinville High School baseball team embraced that message on a special trip to Sauget. On Apr. 24, the Cavaliers rematched the Hillsboro Hiltoppers in a non-conference dual at the home of the Gateway Grizzlies and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory that featured one of the greatest finishes.
