Man dies while free diving in waters off Key West
A 28-year-old man from Alberta, Canada was pronounced dead after being discovered unconscious while free diving in waters off Key West, authorities confirmed Wednesday. According to Monroe County Sheriff’s spokesperson Adam Linhardt, Pieter Lodewikus Botha was spearfishing with a group of people from a private boat near the Western Dry Rocks area around 4 p.m. Tuesday when he was found unresponsive on the sea floor.
County continues work on canal restoration project
The Monroe County government is continuing efforts helping restore water quality in residential canals throughout the Florida Keys as part of a multi-million dollar program in the past decade to protect the nearshore waters. State Attorney rehires previously suspended prosecutor
Monroe County State Attorney Dennis Ward has rehired a prosecutor who resigned several years ago and has been twice suspended by the Florida Bar in recent years. The Florida Bar last suspended veteran prosecutor Colleen Dunne for comments she made via text in attempting to block the marriage of one of the Tree House murder suspects, Franklin Tyrone Tucker.
