SEA TURTLE RELEASE SET FOR MONDAY
The Turtle Hospital in Marathon invites the public to join in celebrating Earth Day with a sea turtle release on Monday, April 22. Sherry and PG, aka Pretty Girl, two juvenile green sea turtles, were rescued in the Florida Keys last fall and rehabilitated at the Turtle Hospital. They will be returning to their ocean home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Sombrero Beach. Sherry and PG were treated for fibropapillomatosis, which included tumor removal surgeries, broad spectrum antibiotics, fluids, vitamins and a healthy diet of greens and mixed seafood. Both turtles are swimming strong and back in good health, according to Turtle Hospital personnel. The Turtle Hospital ambulance will arrive with the turtles at 9:10 a.m. with release scheduled promptly at 9:30. Marathon High School is home to yet another Academic All-State athlete in senior multisport phenom Mikkel Ross. On April 10, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) announced the 30th annual Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team, a recognition program that honors 24 graduating student-athletes who excel in both athletics and academics.
