Former Superior Police Sgt. Takes Plea Deal In 2022 Fatal Crash
SUPERIOR, Wis. — A former Sergeant with the Superior Police Department is taking a plea deal in a 2022 fatal hit and run crash that involved alcohol. With a guilty plea of two counts of Vehicular Homicide involving alcohol, 44-year-old Gregory Swanson is facing the possibility of 9 years in prison for each count.
Two injured in crash at Highway 10-171st
Two people were injured Saturday morning, April 20, in a two-vehicle crash in Elk River. The Minnesota State Patrol was called to the scene at 6:39 a.m. A Kia driven by Abigail Cisneros, 39, of Fridley, was turning left at 171st Avenue onto westbound Highway 10. A Volkswagen Jetta driven by Nicholas Isaacson, 32, of Superior, Wisconsin, was westbound on Highway 10, The two vehicles collided in the intersection, according to the State Patrol. Both drivers were taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids with injuries that the State Patrol described as non-life threatening. They were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not involved, the State Patrol reported.
Fond du Lac Band receives funding to help restore tip of Wisconsin Point
The Fond du lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has received a $350,000 planning grant from the federal infrastructure law passed three years ago to help restore land on the tip of Wisconsin Point, or Gibiskising Minis, a long sand bar at the mouth of the St. Louis River and the Duluth-Superior harbor.

Minnesota- The United Way of Northeastern Minnesota has announced the winners of their first annual “Youth United” contest. Students were asked to discuss what they think is the biggest need in their community. Out of 30 applicants, seven were chosen. Submitted ideas ranged from better educating parents on the current student curriculum, to additional society activities for senior residents impacted by COVID. $10,000 worth of scholarship money was distributed to the winners.
