5th Graders Learn What It Takes To Keep Lake Superior Clean
SUPERIOR, Wis. — 5th grade students from the Superior School District are learning what it takes to keep Lake Superior clean. The City of Superior Environmental Services Division has been providing tours of the Wastewater Treatment Plant for 28 years. The tour includes an indoor lesson, then an outdoor tour. The plant treats about 4-million gallons of wastewater a day. The hope is for students to understand where we get our drinking water from, where our waste goes, and what is being done to keep it clean as it goes back into the lake.
One Dog’s Love Inspires Disc Dog Seminar This Weekend
SUPERIOR, Wisc. — One dog’s love for catching a frisbee has inspired a Disc Dog Seminar, which will take place this weekend in Superior. Lupine is a 5-year-old border collie. Her owner, Eve Graves, said Lupine has loved playing catch since they met. Lupine’s boundless energy inspired Graves to look for more structured opportunities for Lupine to hone her skills. She found none in the Twin Ports area. So, she created one.
Trail by Trail: Ely, Keweenaw, Cable
Ely, Minn.- The Prospector Alliance Loop ATV Club has announced their ride schedule for the year. All rides will be guided and some will be fundraisers that include lunch and a raffle. Rides will start in Ely but with construction planned for later this summer, the starting point may move. The first ride will be June 15, for a loop including the Greg Mosher Putnam Lake Overlook. There will be another ride in September featuring the overlook that will be a combined memorial ride for Mosher and Dan Broten. For the full schedule click, here.

Superior High School’s Spartan Manufacturing Opens Doors to the Community
SUPERIOR, Wisc. — After its inaugural year, Spartan Manufacturing at Superior High School hosted an open house to show the community their work. Spartan Manufacturing’s goal is to educate high school students about trade professions, through running a student-led business. At Wednesday’s open house, the program received a $50,000 donation from Cenovus Energy, one of many local businesses who have invested in Spartan Manufacturing. The money went toward new welding machines and booths, but junior Jack Milliken said the support means more than just new equipment.
