Our purpose is to serve the University in the capacity of the Press, to cover all important news which pertains to the students of the University of Wisconsin-Superior, both of news which occurs within the walls of the University and outside. It is charged with informing and making known the opinions of the student body, and succeeds the Peptomist and Stinger in this capacity. Although the medium we use to perform those duties has changed, we have always been, and always will be here for the students.

Feb. 26 through March 1 is Public School Week in Wisconsin. My mother, Elvie, grew up during the Depression on a family dairy farm in Maple, Wisconsin. She graduated from a small elementary school that educated children from first through eighth grade. Because she was the oldest of three children, she was needed on the farm and was unable to attend a high school in Superior.

Expansion of Barrens Habitat at Brule River State Forest Approved by DNR: Local Douglas County Residents to Experience Enhanced Natural Environment
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has approved a variance to the Brule River State Forest Master Plan. This will permit an expansion of barrens habitat management in the Mott's Ravine Native Community Management Area at Brule River State Forest. The approved variance will expand the core area for barrens management from 200-400 acres to 1,000-1,200 acres. This area is suitable for supporting and expanding the pine-barrens community.

Washburn, WI.- The Washburn community is gearing up for a major reconstruction project. Bayfield Street Phase 1 Reconstruction Project is set to begin on April 1. City officials say residents may see work start soon in preparation for that start date. Items they will begin with include signage coming down from streetlights this month. The streetlights will also come down and may stop working in March. Detour signs will soon be put up on streets. Property owners with mailboxes impacted will be contacted directly.
