Three Southern Tier Residents Killed in One-Vehicle Crash in Pennsylvania
Three people from the Southern Tier have lost their lives after a one-vehicle crash in Pennsylvania earlier this week. According to a release on the Athens Township Police Department Facebook page, the crash occurred around 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23rd on Riverside Drive north of the Sayre Bridge in Athens Township. The department says a 2013 Nissan Altima, being driven by 46-year-old Brett W. Relyea of Owego was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control.
Four more Rite Aid stores to close in Pennsylvania; 16 nationwide
(WHTM) – Sixteen more Rite Aid locations in will be shuttered soon as the pharmacy chain works through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, including four in Pennsylvania. According to bankruptcy filings, the nearest closure is in Pottsville, Schuylkill County. The store on Claude A. Lord Boulevard is the second closure in the Schuylkill County city this year, months after their downtown location closed.

Local schools to receive $47 million in School Safety and Mental Health Support Grant
The School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) under the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) approved $47 million in school safety and security grants on Thursday. According to a press release, the grant is going to improve safety, security and mental health supports for students and staff at schools in the state. The awards announcement completed the $155 million school safety grants program by the SSSC in January. “As a father, I understand how much Pennsylvania parents care about keeping their kids safe at school and healthy in body and mind,” Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, chair of PCCD and the SSSC said. “Our kids are facing so many pressures, and our schools are dealing with significant challenges. The Shapiro-Davis Administration is committed to making sure our schools have the resources they need to keep their facilities secure from threats and provide the mental health services and support that our kids need.” The approved $155 million federal and state school safety funding is being broken down into the following areas:
