CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Bye to the Summer-like temperatures of this week, to a much cooler and wet weekend ahead. Easterly winds, behind a backdoor cold front, is cooling temperatures down and even more so for highs Saturday. Tonight, some showers and thunder around. Cloudy and cooler this weekend with several rounds of rain. Temperatures Saturday, some twenty plus degrees cooler than Friday, in the upper 50s to low 60s. More showers Sunday, especially in the morning, with highs in the low 70s. Additional showers or storm possible by afternoon. Rain through the weekend, expected to range between one to one and half inches.

With the growing impact of climate change, understanding how to prepare for wildfires has become more relevant in Virginia, according to the USDA Forest Service. A team from the forest service reports they were assigned to a complex, or group of wildfires, in western Virginia earlier this year. The team heard over and over that “people here just aren’t used to this kind of thing.” However, there had been a wildfire within 100 miles last fall.
