Former executive of Mississippi Lottery Corporation is sentenced for embezzlement
BRANDON, Miss. (AP) — A former vice president of the Mississippi Lottery Corporation has been sentenced to five years of house arrest after she pleaded guilty to embezzlement for giving herself unauthorized pay raises, the state auditor said Thursday.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The state could soon appeal a federal judge’s decision ordering it to release SNAP data to Jackson’s third-party water manager. On Tuesday, Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s Office submitted a letter to U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate urging him to reverse his April decision ordering its release by 5 p.m. Friday, or the state will be left with no choice.

Swan Lake bridge repair delay frustrates residents who say they’ve waited long enough
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - It’s been nearly four years and counting for a South Jackson neighborhood where a road is closed. Structural issues with a bridge shut down the street where residents were told repairs would be underway by now. A nearly six-foot deep hole here on Swan Lake Drive is one that residents said poses a hazard since the bridge closed years ago.
Speaker White wants to make it easier for Mississippi students to switch school districts
House Speaker Jason White on Monday said he supports changing state law to make it easier for K-12 students to transfer to other public schools outside their home districts. White, a Republican from West who just completed his first year as speaker, told attendees at the Stennis Capitol Press Forum in downtown Jackson that parents should have greater freedom to select which school district their child attends, though the state would not provide them transportation to attend a school outside their home district under his proposal.

Annual West Tennessee Collectors Club Coin Show
The 65th annual coin show sponsored by the West Tennessee Collectors Club is scheduled for September 7-8, 2024, at 309 N. Parkway in Jackson. This annual coin show is held each year the weekend following Labor Day. U.S. and foreign coins, ancient coins, tokens, gold and silver, paper money, Confederate money, supplies for the collector, books, Civil War and other historic documents, and jewelry will be bought and sold by dealers (all of them primarily coin or currency dealers) from several states. The show takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and the event has excellent handicap access. Free coins will be available for children.
