    Thursday Roundup: Sheridan, Tri-Valley softball get wins over Small School leaders

    McCONNELSVILLE — Cora Hall twirled a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts, as visiting Sheridan shut out Morgan 5-0 to score its 16th straight win after Thursday's Muskingum Valley League softball crossover.

    Payton Powell's two-out RBI single brought home Avery Mueller, who led off the game with a single, in the first inning, while Mueller doubled to start the third, move to third on a Brooke Cadigan sacrifice and scored on Hall's squeeze bunt.

    The Generals (20-3, 13-2) plated three runs in the fifth. Mueller's bunt single brought in Avery Davis; Hall doubled home Mueller then Hailey Mueller's double scored Mylie Forgrave, the courtesy runner for Hall.

    Avery Mueller finished with three hits, Hall doubled twice and Hailey Mueller also singled for Sheridan, while Paige Lanning's bloop single in the fourth was the Raiders' lone hit.

    Malayni Clemens struck out 13 and gave up seven hits in the complete game loss for Morgan (12-3, 9-3), which trails West M by a half-game in the Small School Division.

    Tri-Valley 4, West Muskingum 3: The Scotties (20-5, 11-4) plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth then held off the Tornadoes (14-6, 10-3) for a MVL victory.

    With the game tied 1-1, Ally Peterson was hit by a pitch and Alivia Reffitt singled to start the sixth. After a passed ball advanced the runners, Peterson scored on Larsyn Holdworth's fielder's choice. Tessa Green followed with an RBI single to bring in Reffitt, and Holdworth came home on a two-out error.

    West M's Gabbi Hammer hit a two-run double with two outs in the seventh, but a groundout ended the game.

    Ashlyn Davis earned the win, allowing three runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in 6 1/3 innings, while Paiton Murphy got the final two outs for the save.

    Reffitt had a double, a single and two runs scored and Holdworth finished with a double and two RBIs for Tri-Valley.

    Kadie Bare went the distance in the loss for West M, giving up six hits and fanning three, while Hammer also hit a triple, Peyton Brown added two hits and Kate Foster also doubled.

    Crooksville 5, Maysville 2: Gracie Peck belted the go-ahead, three-run home run with two outs in the fourth, as the Ceramics (12-10, 5-9) dropped the Panthers (2-15, 1-13).

    Sonni Nelson also became Crooksville's all-time career hits leader, surpassing the mark set by Amy Holcomb (Frame) in 1998.

    Peck also earned the win in the circle, scattering eight hits, striking out five and walking one. She added a single, Dalena Rollison had two hits and Brynn Lundell doubled with an RBI for Crooksville.

    Taylor Freeland suffered the loss, allowing nine hits with one strikeout and one walk. She also doubled and Olivia McPeek and Chloe Burley had two hits apiece for Maysville.

    Philo 11, New Lexington 5: The Electrics (10-12, 9-7) scored the final 11 runs, including a five-run sixth, to get past the Panthers (8-12, 4-11).

    Caitlin Rose went 4-of-5 with a three-run home run in the sixth. She finished with five RBIs and two runs scored, while Kyleigh McGraw collected a double, a single and three RBIs, Megan Tom singled twice with three RBIs, and Bri Wolfe doubled and scored twice for Philo.

    McGraw picked up the win, giving up nine hits and fanning seven, while Abby Wilson was the losing pitcher after surrendering seven runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 5 1/3 innings.

    Wilson also tripled and doubled with two RBIs, Jorja Burkhart added a triple, a single, two RBIs and two runs scored and Mia Metzger and Brooklyn Burd each singled and scored for New Lex.

    River View 10, Coshocton 2: Winning pitcher Bridgette Bible held the Lady 'Skins (5-18, 1-14) to six hits, struck out two and walked one to lead the Lady Bears (3-15, 3-12) to a rivalry win.

    Kylie Dobson belted a three-run homer and scored three runs, Kelsey McClellan swatted three doubles and three RBIs, Raelee McPeak chipped in three hits and two runs scored and Addyson Blair also had two hits and two RBIs.

    Savannah Gambill suffered the loss, allowing 10 runs on 13 hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Gambill, Courtney Snyder and Jazlene Brown all doubled for Coshocton.

    Baseball

    Tri-Valley 10, West Muskingum 2: Kyler Brennan pitched six innings with six strikeouts for the Scotties (17-2, 14-0), who clinched the outright MVL-Big School Division title with a crossover win at Kenny Wolford Park.

    Tri-Valley managed only six hits off Tornado hurlers Sam Wiseman and Ashton Ansel, but 11 walks and six West M errors proved costly. Tri-Valley scored four times in the first two innings and never trailed.

    Five players had hits for Tri-Valley, including doubles from Nathan Better and Baiden Everly. Ashton Sensibaugh walked four times and scored three times.

    Wes Houston slugged a double and single, Rashid SeSay tripled and Cale McGreevy doubled for West M (11-8, 10-5 MVL-Small), which had five hits.

    Sheridan 16, Morgan 1 (5 inn.): A.J. Winders ripped a three-run triple and also doubled twice and singled, as the Generals (20-3, 13-3 MVL-Big) bounced back with a convincing MVL crossover win in McConnelsville.

    Winders finished with five RBIs. Caden Sheridan, Bryson Ruff and Noah Wamer added two singles — Sheridan and Wamer had two RBIs — as the Generals scored 11 runs in the first three innings.

    Tavian Myers doubled and singled and Owen McCoy and Landon Gheen doubled for Morgan (9-7, 6-6 MVL-Small).

    Monty Eden struck out three and allowed four hits in a complete game to get the win. Rance Eddleblute took the loss.

    Maysville 11, Crooksville 2: Wesley Armstead smacked a two-run triple and the Panthers (6-11, 4-10 MVL-Big) took advantage of six errors in an MVL crossover win in Newton Township.

    Tyler Debolt, who also had a double, struck out five and walked two in a complete game to get the win. He threw 50 strikes in 87 pitches.

    Kolton Gifford singled twice for Maysville; Brady Cottrell had two singles for Crooksville (3-15, 2-12 MVL-Small). Jace Thompson allowed only four earned runs in five innings in a losing cause.

    Meadowbrook 11, John Glenn 8: The visiting Colts (6-12) scored five times in the sixth to earn an MVL crossover win in New Concord.

    John Glenn scored in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead, but Cohen Miles brought in two runs with a single to trigger the outburst in the sixth to give the Colts the lead for good.

    Miles, who also doubled, finished with three RBIs. Braylon Lowery, who earned the win in relief, drove in three runs with a double. James Armentrout added three hits and Devin Wells, Gunner Davis and Max Stone also had two hits for the Colts (6-12, 6-7).

    Jesse Driskell hit a three-run homer and Riley Lake added a two-run blast for John Glenn, which had 10 hits. Wylee Woodard doubled and singled and Carter Merry added two singles for John Glenn (5-14, 5-9). Connor Coveney pitched 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.

    New Lexington 10, Philo 0 (5 inn.): Clay Miller fired a three-hitter and clubbed a pair of doubles for the Panthers, whose MVL crossover win at home was their eighth straight.

    Miller also had a single, joining Mason Pyle and Jonathan Dold as Panthers with two RBIs. Pyle had a double and single and Drew Barnette and Dold two singles as New Lex scored seven times in the final two innings.

    Three players had singles for Philo. Cooper Radcliffe took the loss.

    River View 9, Coshocton 6: The host Black Bears scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a close game in an MVL crossover win at Ron Tisko Field.

    River View tallied 11 hits, including Maguire Werntz's RBI double in the sixth that pushed a two-run lead to 8-5. Brody Buxton also doubled, Blaze Klein and Brogan Shrimplin added two singles and Werntz also singled.

    Coby Moore went the distance for Coshocton, which scored three times in the final two innings. Mack Wilson pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to get the save for starter Cole Greenwalt — they combined to walk nine and allow six hits.

    Ridgewood 9, Newcomerstown 8: Robert Gaston singled home Colton Maple with the game-winning run in the seventh inning for the host Generals (5-13), who scored five times in the bottom of the seventh in an Inter-Valley Conference crossover win.

    Ridgewood's rally started with a walk and hit batter, then Grant Lahmers drew a walk to load the bases. Jackson Cabot's two-run double made it 8-6. Two batters later, Lahmers scored when Cohen Parsons reached on an error, then Cabot scored on Bryce Tolliver's single to tie it.

    Parsons finished with three RBIs as seven Generals collected hits. Cabot got the win in relief of Logan Ridenbaugh, who went six innings with four strikeouts.

    Fairfield Christian 10, Rosecrans 0 (6 inn).: The Knights exploded for nine runs in the third inning, and the Bishops (14-6) were held to three hits in a Mid-State League loss.

    Brendan Bernath, Nick Bernath and Mikey Burkhart singled for Rosecrans, while Hayden Perdue went two-plus innings, allowing six runs on three walks and one hit and striking out six in taking the loss. Xander Daniels was charged with four runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

    Danville 12, Zanesville 8: Visiting Zanesville used a six-run second to take an early lead, but Danville plated nine runs in the fourth to rally for the victory.

    Mahki Murray had three hits and scored twice, Tyson Kimble doubled, singled and came home twice and Riley Needles chipped in two singles and two RBIs for the Zanesville offense. Evan McBride allowed three runs in 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss.

    Tennis

    Zanesville 4, Logan 1: The Blue Devils moved to 7-6 after winning all but No. 1 singles..

    Winners for ZHS were No, 2 singles Connor Baldwin over Xavier Lawson 6-2, 6-3, No. 3 singles Karter Bludnick downing Zack Aldridge 6-1, 6-2, No. 1 doubles Sky Cooke and Cash Omen defeating Soldier Roberts and William Hunt, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in a tiebreaker, and No. 2 doubles Carter Parr and Ethan Turner beating Bianca Sowers and Zack Nameth, 6-1, 6-1.

    Logan's lone win was at No. 1 singles where Owen Gadrim defeated Josh Lightle, 6-2, 6-2.

    Track

    River View sweeps McMasters Invite: The River View girls tallied 146 points to Ridgewood's 81 and Coshocton's 52, while the River View boys had 100.5 points to Coshocton's 92.5 and Ridgewood's 88.

    Winners for the Lady Bears were Lydia Black in the 800 (2:33.02), Antonia Werner in the 3,200 (15:35), Kirsten Courtright in the 100 hurdles (17.76) and triple jump (29-10 1/2), Kylie Miller in the 300 hurdles (51.0), the 4x100 relay of Cortney Bookless, Miller, Annie Killiany and Alyssa Fox (53.39), the 4x101 of Katelynn Wegener, Georgia Haines, Ayres Hamilton and Ogechi Onwunzo (1:05), the 4x200 of Bookless, Fox, Killiany and Caily Shriver (1:50.68), the 4x400 of Black, Kaylie Bryan, Killiany and Shriver (4:20), the 4x800 of Shriver, Taryn Tumblin, Werner and Black (11:27) and Chloee Adams in the high jump (5-0).

    Kenzie Bice claimed the 100 (12.86), 200 (26.25) and 400 (59.43), Alaina Swiney took the 1,600 (6:06), Autumn Joyce won the pole vault (9-6) and Addison Lahmers was first in the discus (102-1) for the Ridgewood girls, while Isabelle Lauray won the long jump (15-6 1/2) and Gabriella Wesney captured the shot (32-0 3/4) for the Coshocton girls.

    Landon Cochran won the 800 (2:11.76) and 1,600 (5:08), Aidan Stevens-Woolery claimed the 3,200 (11:42), the 4x400 of Micah Hardesty, Cael Summers, Cochran and Parker Andrews placed first (3:35.97), Hardesty, Summers, Trey Skjold and Cochran captured the 4x800 (9:23) and Owen Spaulding was first in the pole vault (9-6) for the Black Bears.

    Israel Rice took the 100 (11.02) and 200 (22.87), Aiden Braxton finished first in the 400 (54.45) and triple jump (38-0), the 4x100 of Riley Woodie, Logan Wince, Antwone Johns and Rice were first (43.89), the 4x101 of Kenneth Josselyn, Ethan Larrison, Graysen Searls and Julian Rivera won (1:00.0), Wince won the long jump (19-8) and Sev Workman took the shot (45-10 1/2) for the Redskins.

    Carter Fenn captured the 110 hurdles (17.32), Talon Carns won the 300 hurdles (41.0), Matt Humphrey, Carns, Aiden Sparger and Preston Ator claimed the 4x200 (1:33.61), Logan Zimmer took first in the high jump (6-4), Logan Sesser was first in the discus (136-4) and Cody Croy threw 18-6 1/4 in the seated shot put for the Generals.

    Zanesville competes at Newark Catholic Invite: Camron Willett won the 110 hurdles (15.53) and placed second in the 300 hurdles (45.14) to pace the Blue Devils.

    Jayden Johnson was third in the high jump (5-6) for the boys, while Ashtin Harmon took fourth in the 100 hurdles (19.62) and Reagan Bailey took fourth in the shot (27-8 1/2) to highlight the Lady Devils' effort.
