    Wednesday roundup: Zanesville baseball took no mercy on visiting Johnstown.

    ZANESVILLE — Preston Moorehead twirled a one-hitter with four strikeouts to back a potent offense in Zanesville's 10-0 mercy against visiting Johnstown on Wednesday in a Licking County League crossover at Jay Payton Field.

    Canon Mercer slugged two doubles and singled as Zanesville (5-13-1) scored in every inning off three Johnnie pitchers. Seven players had RBIs for the Blue Devils, who had nine hits.

    Makhi Murray singled twice with an RBI and Caleb Underwood and Noah Darnes singled home two runs for ZHS; Riley Needles added two singles and scored twice.

    River View 15, Philo 1 (5 inn.): The visiting Black Bears (5-12) totaled 15 hits and drew eight walks in a Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division mercy in Duncan Falls.

    Leadoff hitter Reid Johnson and No. 2 hitter Nick Phillips combined for six singles and seven RBIs for River View, which scored six times in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead.

    Maguire Werntz drove in two with a double and single and Brogan Shrimplin also had two RBIs for River View; Werntz went the distance with four strikeouts in a two-hitter to get the win.

    Cooper Radcliffe tripled in a run for the Electrics (6-13-1).

    Tri-Valley 12, Ridgewood 3: The Scotties (16-2) had four extra-base hits and got seven RBIs from the bottom three hitters in the order in a nonleague win in West Lafayette.

    Nathan Better drove in three runs out of the No. 9 hole with a double and two singles as Tri-Valley scored nine times in the final two innings to break open a 3-all game through five innings.

    Kian Drummonds and Kade Hindel doubled and singled, Ryan Lamonica doubled home two runs and Daniel Huffman singled home two for Tri-Valley, which held a 12-6 edge in hits and stole six bases. Huffman had two steals.

    Hindel and Nash Baughman combined for three scoreless, two-hit innings of relief.

    Cohen Parsons doubled in a run and Logan Ridenbaugh and Brody Harding also had RBIs for Ridgewood (5-13). Parson pitched six innings to take the loss.

    Rosecrans 21, Canal Winchester Harvest Prep 2 (5 inn.): The visiting Bishops had 21 hits, drew nine walks and stole 11 bases in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division rout.

    Haiden Omen drove in five runs with three singles to pace Rosecrans (14-5). Nick Bernath doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs and Drew Dollings doubled.

    Brendan Bernath yielded one hit in four innings with six strikeouts to earn the win.

    Softball

    Tri-Valley 8, Philo 1: Alivia Reffitt's two-run double in the first inning got the host Scotties (16-2) started early in an MVL-Big School win at Don Barcus Field.

    Paiton Murphy tossed six four-hit innings to get the win, collecting seven strikeouts in the process. She allowed on earned run.

    Reffitt's double was the Scotties' only extra-base hit, but they made the most of 11 singles. Murphy had three of them, while Reffitt also singled.

    Karlee Southall hit a solo homer for Philo (9-12), which committed three errors. Kyleigh McGraw took the loss.

    Sheridan 4, New Lexington 0: Cora Hall yielded three hits and struck out 13 to fuel the Generals in an MVL crossover win.

    The host Generals (19-3, 12-2 MVL-Big) scored twice in the third and sixth innings, as Payton Powell singled in a run and scored on a wild pitch in the third, and consecutive squeeze bunts scored two in the sixth.

    All five of Sheridan's hits were singles off New Lex starter Abby Wilson, who had four strikeouts in a losing cause.

    River View 6, Maysville 4: The host Lady Bears (2-15) overcame nine errors in a comeback win in the MVL-Big School Division.

    Regan Foster went the distance for River View, allowing three hits and no earned runs. She struck out six and walked two.

    Raelee McPeak paced the offense with a triple and double, which produced two RBIs. Kylie Dobson added two singles, as River View scored six times in the final four innings to erase a 4-0 deficit after three innings.

    Ashtyn Merlo doubled and singled and Ayven Johnson and Sophie Dennis had RBIs for Maysville (2-15).

    Rosecrans 18, Harvest Prep 5: Dakota Householder tripled and singled with two RBIs and Hailey Lepi doubled with two RBIs, as the Bishops picked up another MSL win.

    Householder also earned the win, allowing five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and five walks in the five-inning mercy, while Caitlyn Snode also had two hits and a RBI and Sam Delik and Kate Ward each had a hit with two RBIs to highlight the winning effort.
