YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — It’s the 33rd year the YMCA has invited local businesses and organizations to compete their annual Community Cup.

On Wednesday, some of last year’s teams and new faces gathered for the kick-off breakfast. They learned about some of the new rules and challenges.

First News reporter Hanna Erdmann is this year’s chairperson. She spoke to those who attended, sharing her excitement to be part of a fun, team-building event. YSU Football Head Coach Doug Phillips was the guest speaker, who shared words of encouragement to the teams.

Thousands of employees will gather throughout August to compete in over a dozen athletic events. Some of the challenges include a scavenger hunt, golf scramble and new this year, cornhole.

There’s still time to get together and compete. Teams can sign up ” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”> on the YMCA website until July 1.

The torch lighting ceremony will be on Friday, August 9.
