WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown man c onvicted of a 2023 Warren shooting didn’t shy away from vocalizing his frustration with his trial and the jury who found him guilty.

Prior to the start of his sentencing hearing, Danny Lee Isom, Jr. and the man he was convicted of shooting exchanged shouting words.

“I ain’t the one that shot you, bruh, I had no reason to shoot you, bro,” Isom said.

A jury found Isom guilty of felonious assault, stemming from an August 2023 shooting at the Trumbull Homes in Warren. Prosecutors say the victim was shot multiple times.

“The defendant shot our victim in this case because he was friends with someone that he had a problem with. The person that he had a problem with wasn’t available, so he shot this gentleman. I mean, the motivation is ridiculous,” said Assistant Prosecutor Michael Burnett.

Isom, who maintains his innocence, didn’t stay quiet about his dissatisfaction with both the judge and the racial makeup of the jury that found him guilty.

“I just think that you are a racist,” Isom told the judge.

The judge responded that Isom was entitled to his opinions.

“This is 2024. I should not have had an all-white jury. I didn’t have a chance from the beginning,” Isom said.

Pointing to Isom’s lack of remorse and lengthy criminal history dating back to when he was just 13, Judge Ronald Rice sentenced Isom to 11 to 15 years in prison.

“He is a dangerous person, and I’m glad that he’s off the streets now. He also has cases still pending in Solon, where they caught him with the felonious assault weapon, and he has cases in Cuyahoga County from shooting the other witness,” Burnett said.

Isom’s attorney says he plans to file an appeal.
