YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said a man who brandished a gun Saturday at a postal worker on the West Side was arrested on gun and menacing charges.

Terry Luckey, 34, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on charges of aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor; third-degree felony counts of tampering with evidence and being a felon in possession of a firearm; and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony.

He is expected to be arraigned later Monday in municipal court.

Luckey was arrested after police were called about 2:10 p.m. Saturday to the 200 block of South Schenley Avenue, where a postal worker said a man in a black SUV threatened him with a gun. When police arrived, the worker pointed to a vehicle nearby that he identified as the suspect’s vehicle.

Police tried to pull the SUV over but the driver, later identified as Luckey, got on Interstate 680 at a high rate of speed but slowed down when he got to the Madison Avenue Expressway, reports said. Police were able to pull him over there.

When asked if he had any guns in his SUV, Luckey said no but he admitted to having two loaded magazines for a semiautomatic handgun, reports said. Police searched the SUV and did not find a gun, but they called in a police dog to search the area and found another magazine and a 9mm handgun on an entrance ramp to Interstate 680, reports said.

Luckey was taken into custody before the gun was found because he has warrants from two separate courts, which bar him from being around or having guns and ammunition.

The mailman told police that Luckey pulled up next to him, said “you know they are killing mailmen around here” while brandishing a handgun, then drove off.

A mailman was killed in March in Warren. An arrest has yet to be made in that case.

Reports said Luckey also has a prior conviction for felonious assault, which also bars him from having or being around guns.
