YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Volunteers worked to beautify a city park in Youngstown on Thursday as part of Safe Digging Awareness Month.

Around 20 people worked with Ohio Utilities Protection Service and Ohio811 to make improvements at Crandall Park. They put down new flowers and mulch and exposed an old stone walkway.

The renovation is promoting Safe Digging Month, to remind people to call before putting their shovels in the ground.

“Call before you dig: home excavation projects, anything, doesn’t matter how deep you are digging, how shallow you think you are going. The lines are underground, and we don’t want to disrupt any utility services,” said Kyle Peyton, chairman of the Eastern Ohio Damage Prevention Council with Ohio811.

Last year, the City of Hubbard was the recipient of the Safe Digging Awareness makeover. This year, the City of Youngstown received the free makeover.
