YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Prosecutors Friday filed their objection to a request by a former city police officer and high school track coach on probation to be allowed to travel to a high school football all-star game.

The objection was filed in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in the case of Arthur Carter, 51, who was released from prison in February on three counts of felonious assault for conduct with three female students while he was an assistant track coach at Ursuline High School.

Carter was originally charged in 2018 and pleaded guilty in 2020 when he was sentenced to four years in prison by Judge Anthony D’Apolito.

Judge D’Apolito granted a request by Carter in February to be released from prison and placed him on probation.

Carter lost his job as a Youngstown police officer after he was indicted.

Carter filed a request to be allowed to attend the game April 27 in Massillon to watch a relative play, according to the objection filed by prosecutors.

Prosecutors acknowledged in their objection that Carter has been complying with the terms of his probation, but they said the request should be denied because of the severity of the crimes Carter pleaded guilty to and because Carter’s charges involved high school athletes.

Online court records do not list a hearing date for the motion.
