A bus load of Yorktown ISD Student Council officers, in grades 2 through 5, headed to the local Cuero non profit shelter last week to fulfill their spring community service project.

They filled all the empty bus seats and bus storage area with dozens of donations. Pet food, dry and canned, pet toys, dog and cat treats, cat sand, paper towels, cleaning wipes, collars, leashes, and all types of cleaning supplies. There were even some of the latest in “Doggie Fashions” packed in the containers.

This donation drive was their fourth annual visit, and, as always, it included a tour of the shelter, education on pet ownership, a chance to see some of the dogs and cats that will enjoy the donated items and most of all – one-onone play time with the latest arrivals – 13 new puppies.

The little pups got their share of love and attention, so it was a good day for the homeless “hoping to be adopted” canines that ranged in age from 8 weeks to 4 months.

Thanks to the Yorktown Elementary teachers: Ms. Crystal Whitten, Mrs. Chelsea Rogers and Mrs. Kathy Chappell for creating the event. Pet Adoptions of Cuero thanks all the students, parents, teachers and staff for these wonderful contributions.
