“Web of Lies – Fake Stories of Sharon Toney-Finch” series begins Monday
MID-HUDSON – Sharon Toney-Finch, 43, the founder of YIT Foundation, gained national attention last year when she claimed that veterans in her care were evicted from a Town of Newburgh hotel to make way for migrants arriving in the Hudson Valley, was arrested by the FBI on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Her story made national headlines and was covered by news-talk shows, fanning the flames of the migrant crisis. An investigation by Mid-Hudson News debunked the claims, causing several news agencies to retract their statements.
Scalp massages to private chefs: Lower Hudson Valley ideas for Mother's Day
As much as moms love brunch — I'm personally a big fan of shakshuka and mimosas — there are alternatives, some with food and some without, that are sure to make her just as happy, everything from wine created in a mother's memory to a scalp massage and an easy overnight getaway.
Do You Want to Be a Highway Hero?
Editor’s Note: This article is a follow up to an article from April 2024 calling for volunteers to join the effort. You’d be surprised what people throw out of their cars. Or maybe you wouldn’t. The inaugural workday of the Route 9 River Journal Heroes Adopt-a-Highway group was a short, sharp introduction to what drivers jettison from their vehicles. Lipsticks, empty beer cans (and full ones), snacks and soft drinks, cardboard packaging, bits of furniture, items of clothing, and much more. Red Bull seems to be a favorite beverage. And then there are the ubiquitous red Folgers coffee cans. Not to mention the numerous bottles of pee. Yes, let’s not go there.

Mayor Michael Cindrich, while allowing that the overall increase was “slightly more” than he’d hoped, still thought that the budget was both “appropriate” and “responsible.”CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER “I think the village manager did an excellent job with the tentative budget,” he said at the board’s special meeting on Monday, April 29. A Disturbing Sign of the Times in Yorktown
We should all thank those responsible in Town Hall for keeping Yorktown safe from your own political signs on your own front yard. Yorktown has a lot on its plate but somehow chose to go into the administrative weeds to enforce front lawn sign regulations. Video images have come to light showing a Yorktown employee removing Democratic town supervisor candidate Jann Mirchandani’s campaign signs from her own front yard for supposedly being too close to the town’s right of way. Was this really the most efficient use of Yorktown’s resources? Is this the same Republican Town Board that denied historic landmark protections to preserve a developer’s property rights but won’t let you put a simple lawn sign on your own front lawn? Hypocritical.
