First Alert: There’s a low severe risk overnight

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A cold front is moving closer to our area, and rain coverage is increasing. There’s a line of storms ahead of the front that had a history of producing isolated severe storms...including tornadoes. Yet, thankfully, the storms have weakened, and they should continue to do so as they move into our WTOK area (due to less instability to help fuel it). Regardless, we can’t rule out an embedded storm or two that potential packs a punch.

First Alert: Chances for development are increasing for disturbance in the Atlantic

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The disturbance we are monitoring now has moderate chances for tropical development over the next 2 to 7 days. This is where an area of low pressure is expected to form along a weakening frontal boundary a few hundred miles south of Bermuda over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Rainy start to Sunday, and Daylight Saving Time ends

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Heading through our Halloweekend and into November, we’re finally seeing some much-needed rain across our area. Rain showers are expected to increase in frequency overnight heading into Sunday morning, with more AM showers and storms for our Sunday, that’ll fade off heading into the afternoon. Most of us can expect upwards of 1/10 to 1/2 an inch of rain from these showers and storms, but locally more is possible.

Halloween, there will be showers to dodge... especially in the evening

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Trick-or-treating weather won’t be entirely scary this Halloween, but there will be showers to dodge. An upper-level disturbance will cross our region this weekend, and it’s bringing us the first chance of rain we’ve had in about 3 weeks. Finally! Rain is Back in the Forecast

It’s been a forgotten word in our weather forecasts in recent weeks. But rain is possible across Mississippi this weekend. Unfortunately, the best chance for those badly-needed showers may coincide with Halloween trick or treating. Currently, the National Weather Service is predicting a 30 per cent rain chance on Saturday, 60 per cent Saturday night and 50 per cent on Sunday in Kosciusko and Carthage. It’s pretty much the same in other parts of the local area, except the chance of rain in Durant is 40 per cent on Saturday and it’s 50 per cent Saturday night in Philadelphia.
