Warmer-than-average temps to start your workweek
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - If it feels like summer yet, don’t be deceived! Summer won’t officially start for another month! Even so, we’re seeing sunny and hot conditions this week, with almost a full week ahead with no serious chance of rain. We’ll start the week in...
Above average temps will dominate the week
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Our relatively rainy pattern is shifting a bit this week. Instead of multiple days with threatening showers & storms to watch out for, we get to enjoy multiple days of rain-free conditions (at least for the first half of the week). We can thank an upper-level ridge of High Pressure that’ll settle over our area for a little while. It won’t just keep our area dry, but it’ll also lead to above average highs this week.
Weekend Outlook: Storms to start, but it’ll be a pleasant finish
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Welcome to the weekend! Any predawn rain tapers-off...leading to a decent start to our Saturday. We’ll have a partly-mainly cloudy sky, and the atmosphere will become more unstable by the afternoon. This, combined with an upper-level disturbance sliding by (and dew points in the upper 60s), will lead to scattered afternoon thunderstorms.
Weather Alert Day: Heavy rain and severe storms ring in the weekend
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - We had some rain pass through in the early morning hours of Friday, but we’ve still got more coming throughout today and Saturday. One of the biggest threats today is flooding. We already got between 1 and 3 inches of rain earlier this week, and today’s menagerie could bring between 2 and 5 inches to some places. Most counties around and south of I-20 are under a flood watch throughout today until Saturday afternoon. These storms also bring a risk of severe weather, namely damaging winds and a possible hail threat, especially towards/after midday, when daytime heating can really help drive these storms to full power. As always, the threat of an isolated spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out either.
A pleasant start to the week, but things heat up fast
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - After Friday’s deluge, Saturday has been quite pleasant. Temperatures lingering in the mid 80s and clouds throughout the day have made for a warm and pleasant half of the weekend. Sunday will be warmer and much sunnier. Temperatures fall into the mid 60s overnight with partly cloudy skies overnight. Clouds move out overnight for a sunny Sunday.
Touch a Truck in Highland Park
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian Parks and Recreation hosted a Touch Truck today at Highland Park. It was an interactive event that put kids in the driver’s seat. From 10 a.m. to noon children were allowed to get behind the wheel of fire trucks, police cars, dump trucks, work trucks, and a variety of different vehicles.
FIRST ALERT: Friday’s severe threat could linger into Saturday
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Calm midweek conditions will be bookended by severe conditions on both the start and end of this week. All of our viewing area is under a Slight (2/5) risk by the Storm Prediction Center for Friday. We’ll see rain moving in overnight Thursday and into Friday AM as another cold front and associated low-pressure system rolls through in the first half of our weekend, with ample moisture to feed severe potential.
