Monroe County game warden and deputy use personal boat to rescue swimmers
BIGBEE, Miss. (WTVA) — Two Monroe County law enforcement officers are being praised for their quick action in rescuing seven individuals from a rain-swollen creek. The rescue happened on Saturday in Town Creek in Bigbee where the group became stranded on a sandbar in the middle of the creek. The water rose too quickly for them to swim back to the shore.
Update: Flash flood warning for Choctaw County Friday midday
On Friday at 11:01 a.m. an updated flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 12:30 p.m. for Choctaw County. "At 11:01 a.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," describes the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."

Early morning shooting under investigation in Waynesboro
WAYNESBORO, Miss. (WDAM) - An early morning shooting at a club in Waynesboro is under investigation. According to the Waynesboro Police Department, the shooting incident happened Sunday around 1:45 a.m. at the Cornfield Club. Police have reported injuries caused by gunfire and other injuries. ELLISVILLE – Five Jones College sophomores were selected as Tullos Scholars, Jaylynn Conner of Waynesboro, Haidyn Houston of Raleigh, Kadin Johnston of Waynesboro, Pablo Lopez of Waynesboro, and Aaron Mason of Raleigh. This is the college’s highest honor for the top five JC students, and it includes an endowed scholarship for the recipients.
