Massive offshore wind vessel will not work in New London
Charybdis, the 472-foot offshore wind turbine installation vessel contracted for work in New England waters, is not coming to New London after all. Dominion Energy, the company that constructed this first U.S.-built vessel of its kind, confirmed this week it had canceled a contract with Ørsted and Eversource, the partners that had planned to charter the vessel to support construction of both the Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind offshore wind projects. State Pier in New London is the staging area for both projects.
Violent fugitive from MA arrested in Willimantic
WILLIMANTIC, CT (WFSB) - U.S. marshals and Willimantic police arrested a violent felon wanted in Massachusetts on Thursday morning. Lee George-Maldonado was wanted as a fugitive from justice for charges of kidnapping with a firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, conspiracy to violate drug law, felony assault and armed robbery, according to authorities.

CT Port Authority seeks federal grant for ‘cold ironing’ to reduce ship emissions
The Connecticut Port Authority held a special board meeting on Tuesday to discuss a potential $6 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. The money would go toward buying and using shoreside electricity for ships docked at New London’s State Pier. This practice is called ‘cold ironing’ and is part of the EPA’s Clean Ports Program.
