Monroe county man arrested for threatening resident and firing gun near home

WONEWOC, Wis. (WKBT) -- Several Law enforcement agencies responded to a Monroe County man threatening a Vernon County resident and firing a gun near a home.

On April 27, the Monroe County dispatch received a call stating that 41-year-old Nicholas Lee Calhoon was threating to harm a Vernon County Resident in rural Wonewoc.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office went to investigate at the residence and contacted the Vernon County Sheriff's Office after gathering information. A Vernon County deputy sheriff and a Hillsboro police officer responded to the residence, reporting that Calhoon had been there but was now gone.

At 9:36 p.m., Vernon County received a call from the resident stating that Calhoon returned and was yelling at the end of the driveway. He then left and reportedly returned again with a firearm, discharging several rounds and leaving again.

A Hillsboro police officer responded to the scene and found ammunition in the driveway. A deputy sheriff and the police chief from the Village of La Farge were also responding when they saw Calhoon's vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Officers found the vehicle stopped in the Town of Union and Calhoon was taken into custody.

Calhoon was booked in Vernon County for First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Operating a Firearm While Intoxicated, Disorderly Conduct, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Controlled Substance and Possession of Tetrahydrocannabinol.

He appeared in court Monday where his bail was set for $1,000 cash. Calhoon is expected to have no contact with the victims as a condition of his bond.

Districts Attorney's from both Vernon County and Monroe County are filing charges. Calhoon is due back in court on May 8.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Vernon County or Monroe County Sheriff's Offices. Crime Stoppers in either county may also be contacted.
