Driver charged with DUI after going wrong way on I-89 Sunday afternoon
RICHMOND, Vt. — Vermont State Police received multiple calls around 12:45 p.m. Sunday about a car driving erratically on Interstate 89 in Richmond. VSP said almost immediately after, they began getting calls that the same car had changed direction and was driving the wrong way, going northbound in the southbound lane.

Courtney Rohrig inducted into the VPA Hall of Fame
LUDLOW, Vt. – The Vermont Principal’s Association (VPA) held the Hall of Fame induction ceremony honoring the 2024 inductees. The event took place on Friday, May 10, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Montpelier, Vt. Among the 12 candidates being honored was former Black River High School standout athlete Courtney Rohrig. Recognized as a three-sport athlete for Black River High School from 2006-2010, Rohrig was instrumental in the success of the soccer, basketball, and softball teams. In soccer, Courtney scored 142 goals, along with 50 career assists, leading her team to three straight championships. She was also named to the Lion’s Cup Soccer team, and was recognized as an all-state player three years in a row. In basketball, she scored 1,684 points and earned all-league honors four straight years. A four-year starter in softball, she possessed a strong arm playing center field, and she set a school record with 35 home runs, claiming three straight Division IV State Titles.

Vermont’s bears are out, in search of food and already involved in conflicts with humans, one of which turned deadly for the bear on Friday. Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department game wardens on Friday morning responded to an aggressive bear in Underhill that resulted in the bear being euthanized, the department said in a news release. “The bear’s behavior was judged a risk to public safety,” officials said.

Trooper involved in Berlin crash
BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) - Authorities say a Vermont State trooper sustained minor injuries following a two-car crash Friday morning in Berlin. It happened around 7:19 a.m. at the intersection of Route 62 and Fisher Road near the Central Vermont Medical Center. Vermont State Police say Trooper Dalton Maenpaa was responding to a reported overdose emergency when he went through a red light and his cruiser was hit by another vehicle.
