Keene Elementary celebrates 25 'Koalaty' years
Students and staff celebrated Keene Elementary School's 25th anniversary Thursday by burying a time capsule that will be dug up for the 50th anniversary. "When you bury this time capsule today, let's bury it with pride, with hope, and with the knowledge that we are part of something bigger than ourselves," Superintendent Deirdra Aikens told students during a brief ceremony before the capsule was buried in a garden outside the school. "We are stronger together because of this moment. We are connected for a lifetime." Each grade of students picked different items to include in the time capsule, including lists of their favorite toys and snacks and a list of all the fifth graders and what career they aspire to. Also included was a squishy toy – a reminder of one 2026's trendiest toys – a figurine of the school's koala mascot and a clown doll that the school's namesake used to give out as a special award. "The item you chose is a piece of you, and it will rest here, waiting for a future generation to discover it," Aikens told the students. "You have added something important to Keene's story, and this is a story that will continue

Questions persist as Lebanon school officials push in-house CTE plan
Some residents have more questions than answers while Lebanon School District officials continue to promote an in-house career and technology program to community residents. More than 27 residents, government officials, and community leaders attended the district officials' second public forum at the Lebanon Intermediate School on Oct. 14 to hear plans about developing an in-house career and technology education program (CTE). Lebanon district officials are hosting three forums to get public feedback while they consider exiting the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center (CTC). Despite the plans being put forward, some residents in attendance asked if there were ways to continue working with the CTC and other districts rather than go it alone. "I think that, when I look at the whole county, the Career and Technology Center has been such a plus and a strength in the county that it seems that Lebanon and other districts have benefited from that collaboration for many years," former Lebanon school board member Mary Ann Harrell said to district administrators. "I also think students from Lebanon benefit because they are mixing with kids from all over the county, (and) the county kids benefit from working together." On June 15, the Lebanon School District

Delaware State AD Tony Tucker returning to roots with St. Andrew’s job
Before he became Delaware State University athletic director, Tony Tucker had spent much of his career in secondary education. Now he will return to such a role, as DSU announced Oct. 15 that Tucker is stepping down as athletic director to take a position at St. Andrew’s, the private boarding school for ninth- to 12th-graders near Middletown. Tucker worked at St. Andrew’s at the start of his 35-year career in education. He will return in November as senior associate director of admissions and director of strategic projects and external relations, according to DSU. Deputy AD Brian Ellerbe will oversee athletics while DSU mounts a national search for Tucker’s replacement. Tucker came to DSU in April of 2023 as senior associate vice president of athletics and in January of 2025 became athletic director. “The university is a special place, a place where thousands of alumni have mentored literally tens of thousands of young people in competitive sports and beyond, around the world,” Tucker said in the DSU statement. “In Delaware, I have felt that impact all of my life: trained, coached, mentored, and guided by countless Delaware State alumni, in the classroom and beyond. To have the opportunity to give back
